About Endodontics
You likely associate root canals with discomfort and pain. With today’s advances, it doesn’t have to be that way. At Nevins Dental Center, we’re trained in the latest technologies and techniques, allowing us to make this once dreaded procedure simple and pain-free.
During your treatment, Dr. Cooper will use a surgical operating microscope for enhanced precision as well as digital radiography and 3D imaging. You’ll experience a warm, welcoming environment where your concerns are always addressed and your needs are always put first.
As a multi-specialty practice, Nevins Dental Center offers the comprehensive care you need to keep your smile healthy and bright. If you require endodontic treatment, you won’t have to find another specialist to perform the work. You can get it all done in one office to quickly relieve your pain and restore your mouth back to optimal health.
I had a problem with a root canal performed years ago at another dental office. They not only fixed my problem, but also wholly repaired the preliminary work that was done at another dental office. The office is modern, very clean, and calming. I am glad to be Dr. Nevins’s patient. I will happily recommend Dr. Nevins to my family and friends.
Non-Surgical Endodontics
Non-surgical endodontic treatment, commonly referred to as a root canal, is designed to save a tooth that has become infected or severely damaged. At Nevins Dental Center, our team employs advanced techniques and state-of-the-art tools to perform this procedure efficiently and comfortably. During a root canal, the infected pulp is removed, the inner chamber is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, and the tooth is sealed to prevent future infection. With non-surgical endodontics, you can preserve your natural tooth structure and avoid the need for more extensive restorative work. Our goal is to provide pain relief and long-term stability, all while keeping your comfort a top priority.
Surgical Endodontics
For cases where non-surgical treatment may not be sufficient, surgical endodontics, such as an apicoectomy, can be the solution. This procedure targets the root’s tip and surrounding tissues to eliminate persistent infections or structural issues that cannot be addressed through traditional root canal therapy. At Nevins Dental Center, we perform surgical endodontic procedures with meticulous attention to detail using advanced imaging and surgical equipment. Dr. Cooper’s experience and expertise in these delicate surgeries ensure that your treatment is precise and effective, preserving the health and integrity of your tooth.
Retreatment
While root canal therapy is typically highly successful, there are occasions where previous treatments may fail due to new infections or unresolved complications. When this happens, retreatment may be necessary to save the affected tooth. During this procedure, Dr. Cooper carefully removes the existing filling material, thoroughly re-cleans the tooth, and addresses any new or missed canals before resealing the tooth. At Nevins Dental Center, our comprehensive diagnostic approach and advanced technology allow us to identify and resolve the underlying issues, giving your tooth the best chance of successful recovery.
Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Endodontics Treatment
WHAT EXACTLY IS A ROOT CANAL?
You’ll need a root canal if one of your teeth becomes badly decayed or infected. During the procedure, Dr. Cooper will remove the nerve and pulp from the inside of the tooth, and then clean and seal it.
WHY WOULD I NEED ONE?
If you develop an infection in your tooth, it’s important to have it treated right away. Delaying treatment will lead to more pain, with the tissue around the tooth eventually developing an infection as well. This could cause an abscess, which is a very painful and serious dental issue.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO COMPLETE TREATMENT?
Your treatment likely will be completed in one or two 90-minute appointments. Dr. Cooper will go over your case with you to develop a customized treatment plan that best meets your needs.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER THE PROCEDURE?
Your tooth may be sensitive after the root canal, which can be alleviated with over the counter acetaminophen and/or ibuprofen. You may also need a crown to restore the tooth’s support and structure. Our team at Nevins Dental Center will discuss your options with you and schedule any further treatment you might need.
